PSYC 329 - Psychology of Gender


3 Credit(s)

This course will examine the empirical literature and theories in psychology that document sex, gender, and sexual orientation as continuous, fluid constructs. The gender spectrum, a false gender binary, and transgender individuals will all be discussed. Applied topics will also be explored including (but not limited to) stereotypes and prejudice, sex trafficking, toxic masculinity, and more.

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 100  or PSYC 111  and one 200-level psychology course.

Course Frequency: ALT F

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Analyze the concepts of sex and gender, specifically including whether these concepts are best defined as categorical or continuous variables.
  2. Examine types of feminism and types of sexism over the years. 
  3. Analyze the concept of toxic masculinity and how it applies to modern cultures, including in the U.S. and other countries.
