CRIM 398 - Criminological Research Methods

Basic criminological research methods are examined to assist the student in understanding both the qualitative and quantitative paradigms. The development and organization of a research proposal is an integral part of this course. A review of ethical considerations in research design is also discussed.

Prerequisite(s): CRIM 101 and CRIM 102.

Learning Outcomes:

Recognize ethical issues in criminal justice research and potential sources of ethical violations when conducting research.
Utilize research terminology appropriately and apply research-related concepts to the fields of criminology and criminal justice.
Identify the different approaches to research design such as survey methods, experimental and quasi-experimental design, field research, content analysis, and secondary data.
Effectively search, read, and critically evaluate professional literature in criminology and criminal justice (understand how to conduct a literature review).
Design their own research proposal.
