CRIM 101 - Criminal Justice Systems

An introduction to the field of criminal justice, this course examines the main components of the criminal justice system. It provides the students with a broad overview of the history and functions of the police, courts, and correctional system in the United States.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the foundations of the criminal justice system in the U.S. and its development through history.
  2. Identify the problems and issues that face the criminal justice system in the U.S.
  3. Track the “life course” of a criminal case from initial offense to the release of the offender. 
  4. Assess the effectiveness of criminal justice policies of the past and identify potential problems with current policies.
