SCWK 381 - Methods of Social Research II

Continuation of SCWK 380. Qualitative research concepts, designs, and analysis procedures are introduced. Students develop competence in qualitative analysis and evaluation methods as they learn and critically analyze qualitative research methods and findings. Students develop knowledge and theory relevant to social work by designing and conducting a qualitative research project designed to inform and improve practice, policy, and service delivery. In addition, they apply mixed methods research in a service-learning project that uses and translates research findings to inform and improve practice, policy, and service delivery.

Learning Outcomes:

Demonstrate beginning ethical decision making based on the NASW Code of Ethics, relevant laws and regulations, models for ethical decision-making, and additional codes of ethics as appropriate to context.
Demonstrate the ability to use research findings to inform and improve practice, policy, and programs.
Demonstrate the ability to identify ethical, culturally informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive strategies that address inherent biases for use in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Demonstrate ability to critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate intervention processes and outcomes.
Demonstrate the ability to apply evaluation findings to improve practice effectiveness.
