SCWK 355 - Gender, Sexuality, Race, and Class: Intersectionality

Students in this seminar will explore the overlap of intersecting social identities, including gender, sexuality, race, and class. This class will appraise the role of societal institutions in perpetuating oppression for some social identities and privilege for others. Students will evaluate their ideas through class interaction, journals, and the analyses of ideas and policies. The class will culminate in a critique of students’ own efforts to implement social and economic justice.

Demonstrate the ability to advocate for human rights at the individual, family and community level.

Demonstrate skill in assessing through social justice, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive lenses how social welfare and economic policies impact the delivery of and access to social services.
