SCWK 255 - Human Behavior and the Social Environment II

The second human behavior and the social environment course focuses on generalist social work understanding of large systems including communities, organizations, and groups. Knowledge of theoretical perspectives, diversity, difference, privileges, oppressions, and economic and policy influences is used to understand the interaction between the environment and the person. Students analyze how larger systems shape human behavior and the importance of macro policy and practice to enhance human rights and social and economic justice.

Learning Outcomes:

Demonstrate awareness and understanding of practices that advance human rights to promote social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.
Demonstrate an understanding of cultural humility by applying critical reflection, self-awareness, and self-regulation to manage the influence of bias, power, privilege, and values by identifying and acknowledging the self as expert of its own lived experience.
Demonstrate application of their understanding of anti-racist and anti-oppressive social work practice at the individual, family, and community levels to engage in anti-racist practice.
Demonstrate the ability to advocate for human rights at the individual, family and community level.
