PRKK 300 - Home, School, and Community Relations Online

This course is designed to allow students to become effective leaders and collaborators with a variety of constituents and stakeholders in their school community. Students will examine different aspects of home, school and community relations used to create and maintain positive and mutually supportive relationships with families, communities and within schools to promote student growth, development and learning. Best practices in culturally responsive family engagement are addressed.

Grading Method: Student option.

  1. What are the four caregiving styles and how does each style impact child guidance?
  2. What is developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) and how does DAP support positive guidance?
  3. Examine the ecology of human development and the impact environments (systems) have on a child’s development.
  4. Examine the family systems theory and the impact boundaries, rules, and roles have on a child’s development.
  5. How can teachers use direct and indirect guidance strategies to support children’s development and behavior?
  6. How does observation support teachers in reading and assessing children’s behaviors?
  7. How does the development of self-esteem and the moral self impact early childhood guidance?
  8. How does stress and resilience impact early childhood guidance?
  9. How does aggression and bullying impact early childhood guidance?
  10. How can positive guidance during routines and transitions promote children’s success?
  11. How can the decision-making model of child guidance promote children’s success?
  12. How can challenging behaviors impact early childhood guidance?
  13. How does analyzing and understanding the function(s) and root(s) of the challenging behavior help to support positive behavior?
  14. What is developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) and how does DAP support positive guidance?
  15. Why should a person examine their own belief statements about child guidance?
  16. How does emotional and social competence impact early childhood guidance?
