A survey of the history of Vietnam from the wars for independence from the Chinese and French through the war with the United States.

General Education Course - Liberal Arts Core - Fine Arts and Humanities
Course Frequency: ALT 3 F

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain the role of war in Vietnam’s history considering the ancient past, the colonial period, and the wars of liberation.
  2. Explain the role the Vietnam war plays in understanding American history and cultural identity.
  3. Identify and explain the differing points of view as related to the wars in Vietnam with particular emphais on the Vietnamese and on American “hawks” and “doves.” Articulate key international views, eg. French and Soviet.
