ESSI 604 - Literacy Methods 3 Credit(s)
In this course, teachers will learn and apply intervention strategies for literacy skills for a variety of purposes including language arts and other content area classes using a developmental approach that spans elementary through secondary pedagogy, including decoding and understanding fiction and non-fiction texts.
Grading Method: Letter grade.
Learning Outcomes: 1.Some students require more intensive or strategic instruction to become efficient readers2.Research-based practices that are systematic and explicit are essential to reading instruction and intervention for learners who are at risk or who have disabilities in reading.3.Response to Intervention/Multi Tiered System of Supports promote proactive responses to reading difficulties.4.Comprehensive literacy intervention and instructions address phonemic awareness, decoding, word work, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
