EDUC 363 - Methods of Visual Arts for Elementary Teachers

This course is a study of instructional methods that promote students’ development of visual arts integrated into the elementary classroom. Focus is on designing learning goals, assessments, and instructional strategies aligned to the content and the individual needs of all students.

Prerequisite(s): Must have passed Teacher Education Program Checkpoint I.

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Students will be able to identify the importance of art in society and culture.
  2. Develop strategies to implement differentiated instruction using Gradual Release of Responsibility.
  3. Apply the Principles of Art when designing a Classroom Management poster for an elementary classroom.
  4. Create a lesson component that integrates art history using the Common Core and the National Visual Arts Standards.
  5. Experiment and assess technology integration for formative assessment, and how they are relevant to the NVAS.
  6. Design objectives, disciplinary standards, and assessments to a lesson.
  7. Students will have a completed lesson with all essential components along with visual arts integration.
  8. Complete this course with new lessons from classmates to use in future elementary classrooms.
