EXSC 140 - Functional Human Anatomy


3 Credit(s)

A study of the essential features of human anatomy with special reference to structures of the skeletal, muscular, nervous systems as they pertain to human movement. This course will introduce and develop knowledge in musculoskeletal tissues, learning muscle origins and insertions, as well as bony landmarks. Additionally, this course will explore motions of the various systems and tissues to analyze normal and abnormal movements through the examination of kinematics and kinesiology of various lifting and exercise techniques. Study of this course will aid in further understanding of human physiology within other science courses. Includes lecture and laboratory experiences.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the basic anatomy and physiology of bone, skeletal muscle, and connective tissues.
  2. Identify the location and function of the major muscles.
  3. Identify planes and axes in which each movement action occurs.
  4. Identify the location and function of the major muscles.
  5. Identify the specific components of major joints and their associated movements, as well as the muscles responsible for them.
