ARTD 275 - Commercial Design


3 Credit(s)

Students are introduced to the principles of commercial design, historically and presently through an assortment of applications. Students are introduced to designing for multiple dimensions, branding, abstraction, psychology of color, and appropriate application in both traditional and new media.

Prerequisite(s): ARTD 180 , ARTD 185 , and ARTD 190 , or permission of instructor.

Course Frequency: ALT S (even years)

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Utilize shape language, typography, color theory, patternmaking, and visual hierarchy to create original and compelling products for commercial design applications.
  2. Participate in professional development appropriate to their specialty.
  3. Research and present on artists, events, and trends in their field in written, oral, and visual modalities.
  4. Demonstrate mastery in the media used in this course, including but not limited to: software, hardware, and other media (multimedia applications such as drawing, printmaking, sculpting as appropriate to student specialization areas).
