ARTD 100 - Art Appreciation

This course is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of the principles involved in understanding, creating, and analyzing the visual arts. Does not apply for major or minor credit in art.

General Education Course - Liberal Arts Core - Fine Arts and Humanities
Course Frequency: F, S

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate awareness of the scope and variety of artworks and artistic movements.
  2. Develop an understanding of the context with which artwork, artists, and periods are shaped by their times: social, cultural, and political influences within an historical context.
  3. Develop an appreciation for the aesthetic principles that guide or govern the humanities and arts.
  4. Develop the ability to assemble information relevant to a significant, complex issue, evaluate the quality and utility of the information, and use the outcome of the analysis to reach a logical conclusion about the issue.
  5. Develop and exhibit skills and vocabulary to analyze, interpret, and compare and contrast artworks.
