AGSC 310 - Animal Nutrition

An introduction to the anatomy and physiology of gastrointestinal tracts, the compositions of feed and feed components as well as the utilization of feed by domestic animals; additionally, the course provides knowledge of feed selection and composition of feed rations.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Utilize the basic information on feed nutrient analysis (carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins) and the anatomical and physiological basis of digestion in food producing ruminant as well as non-ruminant animals to create efficient feed plans.
  2. Be able to describe chemical structures, digestion, absorption, assimilation, and metabolism of energy-producing nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
  3. To examine the importance of various nutrients in animal growth, health, welfare and nutrition.
