AGBU 465 - Agricultural Production and Operations Management

This course is the study of the management of production and operations functions in agricultural industries ranging from the family farm to large scale production facilities with an emphasis on building competitive advantage for the agri-business organization. Core concepts include general planning, operation, and use of facilities, resources, capital, labor, and equipment in the production of agricultural and allied products. The management of inventory, supply chain, quality control, and risk are also addressed.

Prerequisite(s): AGBU 225 , MATH 140

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Distinguish key differences between agricultural operations management, marketing management, and financial systems
  2. Review & assess strategic areas typical in agricultural operations management for effectiveness and efficiency
  3. Design & manage practices typically employed in agribusiness operations management to the strategic areas of a fictitious organization
  4. Compare & contrast production operations for a family farm versus a large scale agribusiness facility.
