CRIM 371 - Criminal Procedure

Constitutional development of the law of criminal procedure including search and seizure, arrest, interrogation, trial, and post-conviction proceedings are reviewed in this course.

Prerequisite(s): CRIM 101 .

Course Frequency: ALT F

Learning Outcomes:
1.Discuss the foundations of criminal procedure in the U.S. and its historical development.2.Identify problems and issues in the criminal justice system in the U.S. that criminal procedures are intended to address3.Track the “life course” of a criminal case from initial offense to the release of the offender and be able to identify the rules of criminal procure that govern each step.4.Assess the effectiveness of criminal procedures (or lack thereof) of the past and identify potential problems with current procedures5.Apply the rules of criminal procedure to real-life scenarios to make enforcement decisions
